CV writing · United Kingdom and Ireland

Two pages, a personal statement, and the right to work stated clearly

The British and Irish convention is its own thing. Two pages is the norm rather than one, a short personal statement opens the page, and no photograph is expected.

What this format has to get right

  • The personal statement does real work

Three or four lines at the top that say who you are professionally and what you are looking for. Written well it frames everything below it. Written as a list of adjectives it wastes the most valuable space on the page.

  • Right to work, said plainly

Skilled Worker visa, Graduate route, dependant, settled status or requiring sponsorship. Employers filter on this early, and leaving it unsaid usually reads as needing sponsorship anyway.

  • British spelling and job titles

Organisation with an s, CV rather than resume, and the local name for your role. Small signals, but together they decide whether the page reads as written for that market or forwarded from another one.

  • References available on request

Names and numbers do not go on a UK CV. One line at the end is the convention, and putting a referee phone number on a document that circulates is a courtesy failure that people remember.

From order to delivery

  1. Place the order and pay

Pay from your own bKash, Nagad or Rocket account to the number shown at checkout, then paste the transaction ID. That ID is what ties your payment to your order.

  2. Send your information

An old CV, a certificate, a LinkedIn link or a plain list is enough. Nothing has to be tidy. If something important is missing we will ask instead of inventing it.

  3. A writer builds it from scratch

Not a name dropped into a ready made file. Your experience is read, ordered and rewritten so the strongest part of it is the first thing anyone sees.

  4. Delivered within 48 hours

A print ready PDF and DOCX, sent within 48 hours of the order being confirmed. One revision is included. Further revisions are an add-on, and a later update by us costs 20% of what you paid for the CV; you can also edit the DOCX yourself.

What we need from you

Nothing has to be tidy. If something important is missing we will ask rather than invent it.

  • Your visa or right to work status
  • Roles with month and year
  • The job description you are applying to
  • UK or Irish qualifications, if any
  • Two referees you have already asked

Questions about this

Two pages or one?

Two is standard and expected in the UK and Ireland, even early in a career. One page reads as thin there, which is the reverse of North America. What is not acceptable is a third page for anything outside academia.

I need sponsorship. Should I hide that?

No. It comes out at the first screening call, and having hidden it costs you the goodwill you had. Stated plainly and early, it lets employers who are licensed sponsors self select, and those are the ones worth your time.

Does the same CV work for Ireland?

Largely yes. The structure, length and tone are shared. The differences are in right to work, since Ireland is in the EU and the UK is not, and in a few job title conventions, both of which we adjust when you tell us the target.

Will mine look exactly like the samples?

No. The samples are CVs we wrote for other people, shown so you can judge the standard of the work before you pay. They are not files you pick from and fill in. Yours is written from your own material, and the order of the sections is decided by what is strongest in your case.

Do I get a Word file too?

Yes. Every CV comes as PDF and DOCX, so you get a print ready file and an editable Word file you can open and change yourself.

Single column or two columns?

We build single column by default. Screening software reads a page from top to bottom in one pass, and a two column layout makes it interleave the two sides, so a strong candidate can come out of the parser as nonsense. If you prefer the look of two columns we will do it that way and say plainly what you are trading for it.

What if I do not like the first draft?

Write back with the points you want changed and the same writer revises it. One revision is part of the price rather than an extra, and further revisions are an add-on on this page. What we cannot do is guarantee a particular employer will call, and anyone promising that is selling you something else.

My deadline is today. Can it be faster?

Yes. Same day express is an add on above, and it moves your order to the front of the queue for delivery in 6 to 8 hours. An express order placed after 8 pm is delivered by 11 am the next morning. Everything else about the work stays the same.

What if I change jobs later and need it updated?

Tell us what changed and we update it. A new job, a promotion, a training certificate or a new phone number are all the same to us, and you get a fresh PDF and DOCX back. An update done by us costs 20% of what you paid for the CV. You can also edit the DOCX yourself, whenever you like.
